Electoral Working Group

Our chapter has recently begun developing a Working Group devoted to electoral organizing. It aims to function as a dual-purpose program, firstly to develop a core of administrative capacity for running our own campaigns in the future, and secondly, to establish a chapter inquiry system, to identify subjects and issues that could potentially be campaigned on or for, in the future. These purposes will be structured within Working Group Subcommittees, namely as Practice, the first purpose, and Inquiry, the second.

The Practice Subcommittee, through to November 2022, will be focusing on helping to re-elect our summer endorsement, Mauree Turner, to the State House. After November, we hope to continue our work in helping another candidate win an election in early 2023. In the long term, we aim to eventually run candidates or policy campaigns of our own.

The Inquiry Subcommittee, through to spring 2023, will be focusing on developing our chapter’s inquiry program. In the socialist tradition of worker inquiry, we hope to find answers through our engagement and survey of the interests and issues in the hearts and minds of working people. We hope that these answers will help us, in future electoral efforts, as well as in our work beyond electoralism. This is a new program, and one with not much formal experience among those leading it. However, we hope to develop the knowledge and structures necessary for this program as it begins this fall.
