The Mission:
The Queer Liberation Working Group (QLWG) was created in 2023 to respond to the surge in anti-LGBTQ+ legislation, rhetoric, and violence across Oklahoma. The mission of QLWG is to foster community and provide resources for queer people in the OKC metro.
What We Do
The work of QLWG has included a broad range of projects such as lobbying at the capitol, creating zines, providing medical standby support at community event/protests, and hosting social events and resource fairs.

Queer Rights in Cuba
Watch a recording of our virtual panel below. Full captions are available.
In 2022, Cuba held a national referendum vote on amendments to the constitution’s family code legalizing same-sex marriage and adoption. The referendum passed, but not without a struggle against Cuba’s more socially conservative elements.
In the US, as LGBTQ rights continue to be in the crosshairs of the Trump administration, we look to this victory in Cuba to see what we can learn and apply to our own struggles here.
On June 13th, 2025, the OKC DSA Queer Liberation Working Group, in collaboration with the DSA International Committee, hosted a virtual panel discussion around the Cuban Family Law Referendum of 2022, what it meant for queer Cubans, and what we can apply to our struggles here in the US.
Professor María del Mar Otero Bolaños from the University of Havana spoke about the referendum, and Nicole Poindexter, board member of The Equality Network and former campaign manager at the Human Rights Commission, spoke about the landscape of queer struggle in the US.
Some takeaways from the discussion were the common need to educate the general public to demystify queer issues, and the need for grassroots community building well ahead of any political or legislative campaign to ensure its success.
